Built from the 12th century onwards, the Augustinian Convent has not ceased to be transformed over more than 5 centuries. It welcomed many illustrious people, monarchs, princes, nobles as well as the German theologian Martin Luther, excommunicated by Pope Leo X and initiator of the Protestant Reformation. During the French Revolution, the Convent was entirely divided up and sold as national property. The nearby Augustinian Church was destroyed, but the bell tower donated by King René and the bell tower can still be seen from some of the hotel's rooms. In 1892, the wing containing the chapel was transformed into a hotel. 130 years later, the Hôtel des Augustins continues the tradition by subtly mixing historical heritage, authenticity and modernity. In the chapel it is possible to admire a painting entitled "Susanna and the old men" painted between 1563 and 1639 and attributed to the Italian Tuscan School of Orazio GENTILESCHI.
